When people think about an extended family session, I think they sometimes picture everyone standing in one giant group, smiling at the camera. And yes, we absolutely get those photos, but I always try to add some creative shots in there too! My favourite photo from this entire session might just be the one where JJ the dog decided to charge straight at me and nearly knocked me over!

One of my favourite things about extended family photography is that everyone gets a little bit of their own session, too.

We can photograph the grandparents with their grandchildren. Mom and Dad can have a few photos with their kids. Siblings can have their own moments together. Couples can get a few photos without the kids. And then we bring everyone back together for those big, beautiful family photographs.

It feels a little bit like everyone gets their own mini session and you get the extended family photos all in one.

Photography is the reason I met my husband! Here I’m sharing the tale of how we became high school sweethearts and the role photography played along the way. We have SOOOO many photos of us from the dating years and our first few years of marriage, and just a handful since we became parents of four kids under four. Happy anniversary, babe!

As a family photographer, this session was a dream come true for me! We were in the middle of an extended family session in Port Perry, when they let me know we had permission to use Gray Silo Lavender Farm! This is a beautiful location for family photos near Uxbridge, Ontario.

I LOVE meeting big families! As a mom of four myself, I’m always delighted when a big family books with me! I was so excited to spend time with Victoria and her five kids and Christine and her three at this summertime extended family session at Countryside Preserve in Uxbridge.

The best part of being a photographer is celebrating with my clients! Often, I get called in for a special occasion like grandma’s birthday, a family reunion, or, in this case, an anniversary! I met Kate and JR when they signed up for a spring mini session, and we realized we are neighbours! I was thrilled when they once again hired me to photograph their 10th anniversary party.

When you're looking through your camera roll, how many photos actually have both parents in them?

I'm guessing the answer is pretty few because that’s how it is in my house! I’m always the one behind the camera (or phone) trying to document every moment, and I rarely make an appearance.

Even rarer are the moments my husband and I grab a photo of just mom and dad. Are you the same? This is why I always try to snag a photo of mom and dad in my family sessions. In this session, we got lots of this sweet family of four, and I got some of my absolute favourites of just mom and dad in the lavender field!

I decided to spend my first year of business conducting a marketing experiment. After getting rid of all personal social media, I wondered “Is it possible to build a photography business without social media?” I decided to put off creating social media pages for my business to find out.

Although I consider this experiment successful, I have decided to create a Facebook Page!

Spring is finally here in Southern Ontario, and I was excited to kick off the season at Barton Trail in Uxbridge with one of my favourite families! I was afraid we would get rained out, but instead, the gloomy weather made for the most perfect overcast lighting. You’re going to love this family session with a sweet family of four!

I loved doing this cozy in-home family session for a new family of four! We got some cozy shots in mom & dads room and gathered on the front porch as well. The dogs even joined for the last few shots!

Maybe photos aren't the first thing on your mind right after having a baby. And that's okay! With a lifestyle newborn session, there is no rush to complete the session in the first couple weeks of life. This little man was almost one month old for his maternity photos. It is a privilege to witness a family adjusting to a brand new baby. I love photographing the older siblings with their new brother and getting a few of just mom & dad.

In 2025, is it possible to build a business without social media?

I think so! To test my theory, I've decided to experiment. I'm going to spend one year seeking out photography clients in other ways. I will try talking to friends and family and looking to grow a business by word of mouth. I've printed out flyers, and I'm using this blog to try to build up SEO credibility on Google. I hope that when people are searching for something like Uxbridge family photographer or Durham region lifestyle newborn, they will come across my website! 

This sweet family is getting ready to welcome a new member! They decided on Uxbridge Historical Centre (known to locals as “the museum”) as the place to document their growing family with a lifestyle maternity session. I’m a big fan of lifestyle maternity because it gives us a chance to document the whole family before life changes! This playful maternity session features a sweet toddler about to become a big sister.

I loved this impromptu golden hour maternity session with a dear friend of mine! I'm a big fan of lifestyle maternity and the way we get to bring the whole family into the process. I had so much fun following the toddler around at this relaxed family photography in Sunderland, Ontario. Outdoor sessions are my favourite! There’s always so much to do and no shortage of sweet moments in an open environment like this.
