Extended Family Photos at Elgin Park in Uxbridge

I LOVE a good extended family session! I like to imagine I’m looking into my future as I watch parents interact with their grown children and grandchildren. In the throes of parenting toddlers and little kids, it gives me hope and excitement to think of what my future could look like.

As with every photo session, it freezes this exact moment in time. The way parents, children, siblings, nieces and cousins interact. Extended family sessions seem to hold just the right amount of chaos to keep things interesting!

This extended family photography session at Elgin Park in Uxbridge was the perfect example.

There were three young kids, a very enthusiastic dog, grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, and honestly? Extended families are my favourite to photograph.

When people think about an extended family session, I think they sometimes picture everyone standing in one giant group, smiling at the camera. And yes, we absolutely get those photos, but I always try to add some creative shots in there too! My favourite photo from this entire session might just be the one where JJ the dog decided to charge straight at me and nearly knocked me over!

One of my favourite things about extended family photography is that everyone gets a little bit of their own session, too.

We can photograph the grandparents with their grandchildren. Mom and Dad can have a few photos with their kids. Siblings can have their own moments together. Couples can get a few photos without the kids. And then we bring everyone back together for those big, beautiful family photographs.

It feels a little bit like everyone gets their own mini session and you get the extended family photos all in one.

And if you're splitting the cost between multiple families, it can be a great way for everyone to get affordable family photos, or it can be a great gift idea for mom!

If you've been putting off getting family photos because coordinating the whole extended family sounds complicated, I’m here to help!
